Moldavite, discovered in 1787 in southern Bohemia in the Czech Republic, is a tektite resulting from the impact of a meteor on rocks or other materials which then melted. These fragments were thrown into the air, cooled rapidly and fell back several kilometers away. Moldavite is estimated to be about 15 million years old. This natural glass, which varies from dark green to light green with beautiful small intrusions, is prized for its rarity and exceptional beauty.
